Hyspecs was founded in 1972 by hydraulic engineer Wynne Cranston, who left branch management at Vickers New Zealand to create an independent engineering alternative to the large corporate suppliers of the time. Starting with just two people and a converted garage, Wynne built Hydraulic Specialties Limited around a simple belief: customers should receive the best solution for their application, not simply the products one manufacturer happened to sell.
An exceptional hydraulic engineer and a pioneer of New Zealand’s cartridge valving industry, Wynne championed technically sound, best-fit solutions without brand limitation. He combined quality components from specialist manufacturers with strong technical knowledge and dependable service, always guided by three core principles: knowledge, service and integrity.
His belief in listening carefully, choosing the right technology and standing behind the finished solution continues to shape Hyspecs today. Decades later, Wynne’s founding philosophy remains at the heart of how we do business: provide the right solution and always do the right thing.
